Electroplated ferromagnetic nanostructures with reduced dimensionality

Chemically ordered and disordered equiatomic Fe-Pd nanostructures represent a promising magnetic storage media and potential nano- and micro-magnets which can be used in micro- and nano-systems. In addition the magnetic shape memory alloys like Fe70Pd30, where reversible strains of several percents are achieved in modest magnetic fields, also represent an interesting class of materials to be used as nanoactuators. Fe-Pd-based thin films, nanotubes and nanowires produced via (template-assisted) electroplating will be discussed from the electrochemical synthesis and magnetic properties point of view, with the emphasis on the composition, morphology and the crystal structure influence. Furthermore the magnetic shape memory Fe70Pd30 nanostructures will be assessed as potential smart drug delivery agents.
