The IPS Student Council has been active since the establishment of the Jožef Stefan International Postgraduate School. Representatives of the Student Council are students from the 2nd and 3rd cycle postgraduate studies. The Student Council comprises the President, three Vice-Presidents and three deputies, who each represent their own study programme. As representatives of students we aim to establish a connection between the management of the school and the students, as well as to resolve problems which may occur during the studies.

Our most important task is to organise the annual Student Conference (this year we hold already the 8th Jožef Stefan International Postgraduate School Students´ Conference; The main purpose of the conference is to spread information about research achievements of the IPS and participating institutes, as well as to establish connections between promising IPS students and employers, especially with successful development-driven companies. The modern labour market calls for highly qualified experts who are not only experts in their particular fields, but also master other skills. We are well aware of that in the Student Council, therefore we plan to organise various workshops where students can acquire information and knowledge from expert fields, such as public speaking or similar, from which they can benefit not only in the scope of the present research work, but also later on, when looking for an employment or already being involved in a new working process.

The slogans of this year’s Students’ Conference are: interesting, comprehensible and professional

This year’s conference combines two traditional students’ conferences:
(1) The International Postgraduate School Students’ Conference (IPSSC) and the (2) Young Researchers' Day of Chemistry, Materials, Biochemistry and Environment (CMBE) at the Jožef Stefan Institute (JSI). The conference is open to all postgraduate students from the JSI and to all the collaborating universities from Slovenia or abroad.

WHY? We want to offer an opportunity that will show the students how to present their research work in a simple and understandable way. The event is also an ideal place to get acquainted with the work of their peers and expand their network including their co-workers and the invited speakers, who will be sharing their knowledge and experiences gained from following their career path. The panel titled “Career Plan” will also add an additional platform for discussion.

WHEN? The Student’s Conference will take place on Wednesday 19 and Thursday 20 April 2017.

WHERE? The two-day event will take place in the Main Lecture Hall of the JSI.

WHO? The target participants are master and doctoral students of IPS, JSI and other postgraduate students from Slovenia or abroad.

DEADLINE? The application and abstract submissions deadline is 15 March 2017. To apply, visit the event web page: .

HOW? Participants will present their work with:

  • a short abstract;
  • a 3-minute oral presentation (“elevator pitch”), intended to present the work in an understandable and interesting manner;
  • and a poster presentation, with more detailed information about the work.

The language used for all three contributions should be English.

ADDITIONAL INFO: The best contributions will be rewarded!
