Functional Polymer Materials in Sensor Technology

Goals:

Objectives:
• understands basic principles of operation of chemical sensors and modern approach to the analysis,
• analyzes sensor response depending on a specific composition of a gas mixture,
• analyses the sensor response taking into account the contributions of individual components,
• assesses the accuracy and precision of the measured data.

Competences:
• chooses the sensor type for a selected gas analysis,
• assembles the analyzer and enables the software,
• assembling includes decisions according to the timeframe, financial and professional conditions,
• acquires parameters of the method and predicts its selectivity and sensitivity,
• performs measurements with the assembled analyzer and evaluates the measured data.

Content:

• Functional materials in chemical sensor technology, current development of appropriate materials and structures.
• Interaction of polymeric matrix and gaseous components, sensor response and accompanying side effects in a polymer matrix.
• New approaches towards the improvement of selectivity and response time, and diminishing hysteresis.
• Application and development aspects of sensor technology.
• Study of a real case, planning and utilization of sensor technology, based on the selected example from the student's doctoral thesis.
