Course Description

Strategic Evaluation of Environmental Impacts

Ecotechnologies, third-level study programme

Goals:

The aim of this course is to train the students in strategic environmental impact assessment, and the management of multidisciplinary synthesis in the evaluation of alternatives involved in decision-making on use of the environment within the scope of development programmes. Emphasis is placed on the various purposes of assessments, methods and tools of interdisciplinary assessment of environmental impacts, and the manner of presenting the results. Account shall be taken of: societal development interests, the economy, health and quality of living, management of the environmental (natural) resources, legality, property rights, planning and optimization methods, and multi-parameter and multi-phase evaluation.

Content:

- Development of qualifications for the environmental impact assessment for plans, programmes and policies
- Devising and planning environmental impact assessments based on comparative evaluation of alternatives while taking into consideration both societal development needs and environmental protection interests
- Training for multi-parameter evaluation and decision-making
