Nuclear Fusion as an Environmentally friendly Source of Energy

Goals:

Students gain overview on past, current and planned future activities in development of fusion reactors for electrical energy production. They learn about the ecological aspects of energy production from fusion of light element nuclei and find that fusion reactors are not comparable with conventional nuclear reactors for energy production from fission of heavy element nuclei. They also get information on possibilities for joining large international projects on fusion such as EFDA (European Fusion Development Agreement), ITER (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor) and DEMO (Demonstration Fusion Reactor).
