IPS STUDENTS VISITED THE JSI TRIGA RESEARCH REACTOR

A remarkable nuclear science experience

IPS Students Visited the JSI TRIGA Research Reactor

Published: 24. nov. 2025

IPS students had an exceptional opportunity to visit the JSI TRIGA research reactor. TRIGA is specifically designed for education and experimentation in nuclear and reactor physics — reflected in its name: Training, Research, Isotopes, General Atomics. In operation at the Jožef Stefan Institute since 1966, the reactor has supported industrial research, material analysis, and the production of isotopes for medical applications. It has played a vital role in training the first experts for the Krško Nuclear Power Plant (NEK) and continues to serve as a key educational facility for NEK operators as well as physics and electrical engineering students from the University of Ljubljana.

The visit allowed IPS students to step inside the reactor hall and learn firsthand about nuclear research, radiation protection, and real-world scientific applications, offering a unique insight into the power and importance of modern research technologies.
