IPS invites you to the Defence of the Doctoral Dissertation by Rok Hribar titled: Methodology for adapting machine learning and large-scale optimization problems to be solved by gradient-based algorithms. The defence will take place on Friday, 27 February 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the IPS Lecture Room (N205-N206, Jamova c. 39, 1000 Ljubljana).
Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Gregor Papa.
Co-supervisor: Dr. Jurij Šilc.
Short summary:
We explore how gradient-based algorithms can be applied beyond deep learning. We show they can be used to efficiently solve diverse problems, such as clustering, discrete optimization, and simulation-based optimization, even in fields where their value is not immediately apparent.
