A Thank You to the Outgoing President of the IPS Prof. Dr. Vito Turk and a Warm Welcome to the New President Prof. Dr. Dragan Mihailović

Today, 21 October 2025, marks the conclusion of an important chapter in the story of the Jožef Stefan International Postgraduate School (IPS). Academician Prof. Dr. Vito Turk is concluding his term – a man who has shaped IPS from its very beginnings, with courage, vision, and a sincere belief in the power of knowledge.
Prof. Turk was one of those rare individuals who dared to think a step ahead. Together with Prof. Dr. Robert Blinc, more than two decades ago, he brought to life a bold idea — to establish a school that would connect science, industry, and the international community. From this vision, IPS was born: a place where curiosity, creativity, and responsibility for the future come together.
We thank him for all the years of leadership, wisdom, and calm determination with which he accompanied the school’s development. His openness, respect for people, and trust in young researchers are values that continue to shape the identity of IPS today. His courage and visionary spirit remain part of our shared story – as both an inspiration and a commitment to continue his work with the same dedication.
Today, the baton of leadership passes to Academician Prof. Dr. Dragan Mihailović, an exceptional scientist and a long-standing collaborator of IPS. His involvement dates back to the school’s very beginnings, as one of the co-creators of its first programmes – the foundation upon which we continue to build.
Prof. Mihailović is a person who knows how to connect scientific excellence with a vision for the future. We believe that under his leadership, IPS will continue its path – one of collaboration, openness, and the creation of new opportunities for knowledge.
We sincerely congratulate the new president and wish him great success. At the same time, with deep respect, we extend our heartfelt thanks to Prof. Dr. Vito Turk for his invaluable role, courage, and the heart he has left on every page of the IPS story.
