Food Systems & Health Hackathon 2026

On 15–16 September 2026, the Food Systems & Health Hackathon was held at the Jožef Stefan Institute Reactor Centre in Podgorica, bringing together 10 students from diverse disciplines, including food science, artificial intelligence, materials science, chemistry and biology.

Working in interdisciplinary teams, the students developed innovative solutions for healthier, safer and more sustainable food systems. An important contribution came from industry partners Jata Emona, Juicy Marbles and MycoMedica, together with experts from NIJZ and JSI, who provided real-world challenges, practical perspectives and mentoring throughout the hackathon.

Organised by the Jožef Stefan International Postgraduate School (IPS), Ljubljana University Incubator (LUI) and Jožef Stefan Institute (JSI), the event demonstrated the value of connecting different scientific disciplines with industry and societal needs.

Congratulations to all 10 participants for their creativity, enthusiasm, teamwork and excellent solutions developed during these intensive two days!
