It is with great sadness that we received the news of the passing of Prof. Dr. Gorazd Kandus, a distinguished researcher, professor, and long-time collaborator at the Jožef Stefan International Postgraduate School.
Prof. Dr. Gorazd Kandus was one of Slovenia’s leading experts in the fields of telecommunications, mobile communications, and communications networks. For decades, he devoted his extensive knowledge and research experience to the development of modern communication technologies and made significant contributions to the advancement of the Slovenian and international research communities. His work was marked by professional excellence, a dedication to research, and a sincere willingness to share his knowledge with younger generations of researchers and students.
At the Jožef Stefan International Postgraduate School, we will remember him as a valued colleague, a leading expert, and a person who, through his dedication, openness, and willingness to collaborate, left a lasting mark on the development of the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) study programme. As a long-standing member of the Senate and the Habilitation Commission of the Jožef Stefan International Postgraduate School, he played a significant role in shaping the school’s development direction through his in-depth knowledge, wealth of experience, and sound professional judgment. His contribution to the academic community of the Jožef Stefan International Postgraduate School will remain permanently inscribed in its development and operations.
His long-standing involvement in bridging the gap between the research and business communities in the field of telecommunications was also particularly valuable. With his professional authority, broad perspective, and ability to bring together various stakeholders, he made a significant contribution to the creation of numerous initiatives and successful collaborations between research institutions and the business sector.
Prof. Dr. Gorazd Kandus left behind a rich professional and pedagogical legacy and an indelible mark on the Slovenian research community. He will be remembered by numerous colleagues, students, and researchers as a respected supervisor, a reliable partner in dialogue, and a man of exceptional professional integrity.
