Synthesis, crystal growth and magnetic properties of two-dimensional spin systems
IPS invites you to the Defence of the Doctoral Dissertation by Lia Šibav titled: Synthesis, crystal growth and magnetic properties of two-dimensional spin systems. The defence will take place on Friday, 15 May 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at the IPS Lecture Room (N205-N206, Jamova c. 39, 1000 Ljubljana).
Supervisor: Asst. Prof. Mirela Dragomir.
Short summary:
Low-dimensional magnetic materials are of interest due to quantum phenomena arising from reduced dimensionality. This thesis explores effects of chemical substitution in a square-lattice antiferromagnet, SrCu2(BO3)2, and develops a single-crystal growth approach for rare-earth tantalates, RETa7O19 (e.g. NdTa7O19), a group of triangular-lattice antiferromagnets. Results provide new insight into the interplay between structure, dimensionality, and magnetism in these materials.
