During my exchange period (April-June), I had the opportunity to combine research work with practical field experience in the area of cultural heritage diagnostics and conservation. The exchange focused on the investigation of wall paintings using non-destructive testing (NDT) methods.

Most of my work was carried out in the laboratory, where I participated in testing different diagnostic techniques on samples simulating wall paintings. We explored methods such as moisture assessment, thermography, and ultrasonic measurements to better understand their ability to detect hidden defects and investigate internal structures. In addition to laboratory activities, I also took part in fieldwork in the countryside near Florence, where we examined historical wall paintings and learned more about their conservation and documentation.

The exchange was a very valuable experience both academically and personally. It allowed me to gain practical knowledge and hands-on experience with diagnostic methods that complement my doctoral research interests. Working in an international and interdisciplinary environment helped me broaden my perspective, improve my communication skills, and experience different approaches to research and problem-solving.

Overall, the exchange contributed significantly to my professional development and strengthened my interest in the application of scientific methods in cultural heritage conservation. I am very grateful to the Erasmus+ Programme for the financial support that made this exchange possible and gave me the opportunity to gain valuable knowledge and experience at CNR in Florence.
